The respiratory therapy event allows individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required in respiratory therapy.. This competitive event consists of two rounds. Round One is a written, multiple-choice test and top-scoring competitors advance to Round Two for the skills assessment. This event aims to inspire HOSA members to learn more about respiratory careers, use critical thinking skills, and become allied health professionals who can respond and assist efficiently in clinical settings.
SLC Competition Information:
1. A “mystery skill(s)” will be announced on January 19, 2026 in which competitors will be asked to film a video of themselves performing one-two of the technical skills from the skills rubric. Along with the “mystery skill”, tips for how to record and instructions for uploading the video will be released. Competitors should continue to follow all guidelines required including proper dress and professional interactions with their patient and judges. Deadline to submit the video is February 13, 2026. Be sure to look at the 2025-2026 rubrics as this is how they will be scored.
2. The technical skill video above along with the online test will be used as a qualifier to move onto the in-person round two at SLC.
3. The online testing window is February 23- March 6, 2026. For competitors who move on to round two, online test scores will be combined with skills rubric scores at SLC for a total score.
